Pay-Per-View is a commercial television model which requires that viewers, much like the name suggests, pay for each viewing of a broadcast. Pay-Per-View models are often utilised by the professional sports industry in order to maximise profits for fights which garner unusual public attention, such as last years' Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao boxing match. This used Pay-Per-View as many people would not purchase a subscription solely for this event, but would be willing to pay money to see it. Often, particularly in America, bars and other establishments offer 'Pay-Per-View Nights' in which people can gather at the bar and all watch one broadcast of a fight or event, which allows the bar to sell drinks to people attracted by the event. The Pay-Per-View model is in contrast to models which rely on advertisements, or subscription.
